Yachting NSW Class Development Program takes your class further
Youngsters tested at Foundation Regatta
Alex Esposito receiving the Gill Shield from Myra Gauci Borda. The Malta Young Sailors Club is keeping to their original mission, that of organising competitive dinghy sailing for its members. In fact, the club features annually on the international sailing calendar when it presents local youngsters with the opportunity to compete against foreign sailors in home waters. This is done at the Euromeds where in 2011, the 12th in the series, saw a record participation of 130 sailors from ten nations. Getting to the Euromeds’ competitive level demands a thorough build-up of on-water training. Here the club organises a number of competitive regattas which help the sailors nurture experience and confidence. One of these main events is the Gill Foundation Regatta. The race, now in its … [Read more...]
Irish Team Named For Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Worlds Following ISA …
The morning's racing started with all to play for in each class with some of the most exciting racing in the boy's Laser Radial where the top three boats were within one point of each other going into the last race. Irish Sailing Association (ISA) Academy Sailors Finn Lynch and Robbie Gilmore punched the line well in the last race. Lynch pulled in front and controlled the fleet well to win the last race and overall event ahead of Tomasgaard (NOR) and Robbie Gilmore. In the girl's Laser Radial, Sophie Murphy (IRL leapfrogged Georgina Povall (GBR) and Ellie Cumpsty (GBR) to take 'first girl' and secure her place on the Irish team for the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Worlds this July. The French team of G Pirouelle and V Sipan continued their dominance of the 420 winning by 15 points ahead of … [Read more...]

Gilmore Edges Ahead of Lynch in Radial Title Race
#ISAYOUTHNATS – A hard won victory in the third of today's three races just tips the balance in favour of Strangford Lough's Robbie Gilmore in a very hotly contested 68 boat Laser Radial fleet at the ISA Mitsubishi Youth Nationals Sailing Championship. Racing on Dublin Bay out of Dun Laoghaire, the stakes for Gilmore extend higher than just vying for the Radials National title. Selection for Ireland's Radial spot in July's Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships to be raced on these same race areas, amounts to a first-past the-post-battle at these four day championships and Gilmore arrived ashore this afternoon feeling that his fifth, second and win today may prove conclusive in what still looks to be a duel with long time rival and fellow ISA Academy sailor Finn … [Read more...]

Consistent Lynch Holds Lead at Youth Championships
#ISAYOUTHNATS – Success on Friday 13th was not about luck but about consistency in the very light and variable winds which, once coupled with the strong tidal flow, made for a second mentally taxing day of racing at the ISA Mitsubishi Youth Nationals, raced on Dublin Bay from Dun Laoghaire. For the very top tier Irish sailors among the armada of 285 competing boats in the six different classes, selection for July's Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships - to be hosted on these same waters - may be the ultimate goal from this four day championships which finishes on Sunday, but today most were keeping thoughts of rivalries and outcomes at the very back of their minds. Clean starts were essential in order to make the best of the gains which were often to be found on the … [Read more...]
Dublin Bay is Focus for Youth Sailing this Weekend
#ISAYOUTHNATS – Dublin Bay is the national sailing focus this weekend, with more than 400 junior sailors hitting the water for the ISA Mitsubishi Youth Nationals. On the threshold of the season, it's always an event alive with anticipation. And with the Youth Worlds scheduled for the same venue in July, the pressure is already way off the top of the scale. Leading Optimist dinghy sailor Sophie Browne (14) of Tralee, youngest ever helm to take the coveted "Sailor of the Month" title after her Silver Medal in the Opty Worlds in New Zealand in December, has already launched her 2012 season with considerable success in Denmark, where she won the recent International Consul's Cup series with a strong performance which moved the official reporter to suggest that the Kerry sailor had moved up a … [Read more...]
